L.A Rams At 49ers Week 7 Preview
October 22, 2018 in Sports News
The Los Angeles Rams (6-0) travel to Santa Clara to take on the hapless San Francisco 49ers (1-5) in a game featuring two NFC West teams heading in opposite directions.
Last week the Rams defeated the Denver Broncos 23-20 in dramatic fashion at Mile High to stay unbeaten, while the 49ers lost another close one, this time a 33-30 heartbreaker to the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field.
For San Francisco to compete in this game and avoid a humiliating rout at home, quarterback C.J. Beathard needs to be at his very best and avoid turnovers at all costs as he prepares to face what is arguably the NFL’s best team.
At this point in the season is way too clear that almost no one in the NFL has the talent to compete with the Rams, especially not the 49ers, who after losing starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to an ACL season-ending injury, saw their chances of competing for the playoffs evaporate.
As for the Rams, Jared Goff is having an outstanding year as he’s on a torrid pace to break Payton Manning’s single-season passing record which he set in 2013 with the Denver Broncos.
Goff is facing a pass defense that ranks 25th in the league as it allows 279 yards per game so expect him to rebound from a subpar game in Denver with an exceptional outing against the 49ers. Look for him to finish with at least two touchdowns and pass for about 250 yards.
Of course, running back Todd Gurley is the centerpiece of the Rams’ offense and that was evident once more last week against the Denver Broncos as he finished with 208 rushing yards.
Gurley makes this offense click and a back of his caliber will prove too much for a 49ers team that ranks 29th in scoring allowing almost 30 points per game. Look for him to finish with at least 100 yards and a score despite facing a defense that is ranked 13th in rushing yards allowed (98 per game).
Prediction: Rams 31 – 21 49ers
