Betting The NFL For 2014 This Summer
July 18, 2014 in Gambling News
The betting public got it right last year in backing the Seattle Seahawks throughout the season. Handicappers in Nevada initially opened the Seahawks at 12-to-1 to win the Super Bowl but those odds quickly fell to 6-to-1 and eventually to 4-to-1… as more and more bettors guessed right about Seattle and Pete Carroll.
Once again this year bettors are coming down early and heavy on the Seahawks to win it all, once again. The big establishments on the strip in Las Vegas opened Seattle at 8-to-1 but saw such an immediate deluge of action they quickly moved the line to 4-to1.
In fact, more action has been taken on the Seahawks so far than on any other NFL team. However, they are closely followed by the Broncos at 9-to-2, the 49ers at 5-to-1, the Packers at 6-to-1 and the surprising Chicago Bears showing up at 8-to-1 this summer.
The betting public is showing much interest in the Bears for next season as well as the St. Louis Rams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Tennessee Titans all of whom bettors apparently saw as being undervalued when the numbers were first posted.
On the other hand, bettors found the Atlanta Falcons, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers to be much too pricey to play with. Meanwhile the New England Patriots have dropped from 10-to-1 down to 7-to-1 and the Green Bay Packers and the New Orleans Saints have both seen their odds move from 15-to-1 down to 12-to-1.
One of the seasonal indicators coming out each summer are the numbers posted out in Las Vegas on the NFL 2014 Team Wins Totals. It’s always interesting to see what those sharp minds think is going to happen during the next football season. They look at each matchup and take their shot at who will be the winner, and go from there.
The New Orleans Saints are the only team that the oddsmakers expect to usurp a standing NFL division champion. The Carolina Panthers hold the NFC South title from last year but the boys in Vegas are betting that the Saints will take it home to the ‘Big Easy’ this time around.
The Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers, the New England Patriots, the Cincinnati Bengals, the Indianapolis Colts, the Denver Broncos and of course, the Seattle Seahawks, have all been given the shortest odds to win their respective divisional championships once again this year.
